Ms. Margaret Darling’s daughter lost her battle with cancer recently. She had seven children and no one but Ms. Margaret Darling to take care of them. She now has custody of them and is caring for their needs. These children and their Grandmother are residents of Newberry and lived here all their lives. The children are at home for the summer and are in great need of structural activities.
Some of Margaret Darlings friends are making a strong effort to make it possible for these children to participate in the summer program at Easton /Newberry Sports Complex. We need assistance with covering some of the cost for these seven Children. We are trying to raise total of $2000.00 for all seven for the rest of the summer session. Donations can be sent to P.O. Box 369 Newberry. checks or money order made out to City of Newberry for summer program. Please help these children if you can. Thank you Judy Hasan Lewis

Summer Activities :: Dudley Farm Historic State Park
Dudley Farm State Park is right here in our backyard ! Did you know how much it offers ? For all ages, the farm represents what it was like back in the 1800s. The working farm includes animals that amaze all…. Turkey’s and chickens, a mule, horses, and cows. (Be sure to Clap for Peter the Turkey and he’s sure to call out an answer ) . Active plantings of flowers and produce, a general store that sells items made by hand , and produce, jams and jellies produced locally and on the farm. Old farm tools are scattered about and in the museum. Volunteers dress in period, and will show your young ones how to grind corn and feed the chickens, or allow them to get close to the animals, such as the mule. They are also experienced at local planting and farming. The museum shows a film about the Dudley Family and about Newberry at that time when the farm was actively in use, or simply walk the park and homestead in it’s serene and natural settings that will calm and delight you.
The Farm Park Hours are Wed – Sunday 9 AM – 5 PM . (The Historic Farmstead closes at 4 PM). Commissary Hours Weds, Friday – Sunday (Closed on Thursday ) 10 AM – 3:30 PM. General Admission to the park is $5.00 per vehicle , up to eight occupants. Pets are not allowed at the historic farmstead.
The park has many events throughout the year, and always appreciates volunteer and donation support. The next event is the Quilt Show that will be on Saturday October 1st, 2011 from 10 AM – 3 PM.
