Lightning Safety
Lightning Tips from the National Weather Service
If you can hear thunder, you are close enough to the storm to get struck by lightning
If you are outside with others, stay at least 15 feet apart from them so the lightning won't travel between you if you are hit
Make yourself the smallest possible target, squat with your hands on your knees and your head tucked
Hurricane Ready
Develop evacuation plan in advance, including routes and shelters
Find out if the shelter you have chosen allow pets if applicable
Create a family disaster supply kit: Battery Operated radio, flashlights, first aid kit, non-perishable food items, 3 day water supply, non-electric can opener, medicines, cash and credit cards
Teach children to call 911 in case of an emergency
Know the proper way to protect your home during a storm
Pre-measure plywood panels to use when boarding your home's windows before a storm hits
